Abstract

The development of social media has created new spaces for language use while also providing opportunities to introduce and represent local cultures. Local culture-themed content presented in English serves not only a communicative function but also has the potential to become an authentic resource for language learning. This study aims to analyze morphological variations in English found in social media content related to local culture and to examine their relevance to English language learning. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using words and morphological forms found in local culture-themed social media content as the data. The data are analyzed based on word-formation processes, including affixation, derivation, inflection, compounding, and other relevant morphological processes. The findings are then examined in terms of their potential use as contextual and culture-based English learning resources. This study is expected to demonstrate that social media content not only represents the diversity of local cultures but also provides authentic resources for understanding the use and formation of English words. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of English language learning that utilizes digital technology while integrating local cultural contexts.
